Garibaldi Lake - Oct 09

Trip Reports

Garibaldi Lake - October 17

There was a light rain falling as we drove from Vancouver through Squamish. But by the time we got onto the trail to Garibaldi Lake it had eased up slightly. This was to have been a hike to Wedgemount Lake but at 2,000 meters there was a risk of snow on the scree we would  have to cross, so prudence dictated a change of plans.
We made good time up the trail, with Mooriel, the Swiss cow, swinging happily from Ursula's pack.  At the Barrier we paused to take in the view which was, however, rather obscured by the clouds swirling around the valley.

Day 1 - Table Mtn

Mira, Doug and I arrived at the house at Baker Rim in good time and decided to drive up to Artist Point and check out Table Mountain. A 600 foot gain over steep switchbacks take you up the lava cliffs and provides an amazing reward of panoramic views of the peak-studded horizon.

Mt. Strachan

Trip Reports

Mount Strachan Sunday, September 20, 2009

Ten BOCers set off eastward along the Baden Powell trail from the downhill ski parking lot at Cypress Mountain on the morning of a late summer day. As soon as we entered the forest the air cooled considerably. We quickly discovered a trail full of slippery roots and rocks, puddles and mud. After our dry summer the latter was a surprise but there's been rain in the mountains and the streams are gurgling again.

Needle Peak

Trip Reports

Needle Peak, October 4

David, Elena and Melanie started out from Burnaby City Hall as a simple group of 3, but acquired people at various spots along the way - Susie at the Surrey park n'ride, Grace at the Abbotsford Tim Hortons (as if David needed an excuse to visit), and Sandy and Doug at the trailhead. We watched the outside temperature reading in David's car steadily drop as we climbed towards the trailhead; 5 degrees by the time we got there.
